Principal Engineer, Acoustic Design
At WSA, we combine deep audiological insight with advanced engineering to create hearing solutions that truly make a difference. Our work bridges science and technology—translating complex acoustic and hardware challenges into meaningful user experiences.
As part of our hardware organization, you’ll join a global team driven by precision, collaboration, and innovation. Every design decision you make contributes to shaping the sound experience for millions of people worldwide. If you’re motivated by solving intricate technical problems and turning acoustic concepts into life-changing products, you’ll find purpose and challenge here at WSA.
The Team
The acoustic design team plays a pivotal role in shaping the sound performance of WSA’s hearing aid solutions. Operating within a broader hardware organization, our work spans from early concept development to integration into product development and verification, ensuring production readiness. The complexity of the work arises from the multifunctional nature of modern hearing aids and the need to support multiple product lines across various brands.
The team is responsible for:
- Designing and developing acoustic systems that meet demanding performance and quality standards
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation and specifications to support seamless development and integration
- Understanding and optimizing the sound signal path to ensure clarity and fidelity throughout the system
- Testing and verifying the acoustic performance of hardware platforms to ensure they meet design goals and user expectations
One of the key technical challenges lies in delivering the required acoustic output while maintaining exceptional sound quality, all within the constraints of the mechanical design and feedback control. Achieving this requires close collaboration with cross-functional experts across the organization.
Clear communication and thorough documentation are essential throughout all phases of development. Cross-disciplinary collaboration—with mechanical, electronics, and audiology teams—is a fundamental part of the work, often involving coordination across multiple global locations.
What you will do
As a senior contributor to acoustic development, you’ll help shape the next generation of hearing aid solutions. Your work will involve:
- Creating reliable technical specifications that reflect both audiological and hardware perspectives
- Collaborating with audiology teams to ensure seamless integration of new chipsets and features into hardware platforms
- Defining system-level requirements and translating them into hardware specifications
- Communicating effectively with project stakeholders to align on goals and timelines
- Supporting tool development teams with planning and technical input
- Coordinating across departments and locations to streamline processes and share best practices
- Navigating relevant standards and regulatory requirements
- Making strategic design decisions that balance performance, cost, and delivery timelines
Your background
We expect you to hold a degree in engineering, ideally with a focus on acoustics, and bring substantial experience in acoustic design—particularly in sound path optimization, measurement techniques, and electroacoustic and vibroacoustic analysis. Familiarity with hearing instruments or similar audio products like headsets is a plus.
You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with experienced colleagues. You’re passionate about your field, curious by nature, and a strong team player. Your communication skills help you navigate a dynamic, cross-functional organization with multiple concurrent projects and diverse working cultures.
